IOTA’s Granite Taper 800 urban street plant containers were utilised to help improve the area in the Dockside of Douglas, Isle of Man.

IOTA planters are a popular solution for improving streetscape designs. The natural toughness of granite makes them particularly strong and long lasting, and ideal for all urban and high traffic areas. At the Dockside, the main concern was that there was no protective barrier between the sideways and the road, hence, IOTA Taper 800 planters were lined up along the roadside. It acted not only as a barrier but also as a guide for the flow of pedestrians. Aesthetic value was combined with functionality for a strong outcome.

The IOTA Taper 800 was already featured in a couple of civic schemes including the Birmingham City Centre wherein 60 planters were commissioned. The Taper 800 can hold 162 litres and weigh approximately 157kg. with a thickness of 25mm. With the superior strength, durability, and natural appearance of granite, it is a great solution for demanding outdoor designs. Granite is resistant to most physical damage and graffiti. Any minor damage incurred is not readily visible because of the natural grained surface.
