Landscaping is an act of making improvements on a piece of land or property in order to improve the visual aesthetic. It is often used to improve an area while providing a practical function. Landscaping can be a very costly endeavor but spending a ton of money isn’t always necessary.
Plant Plants that Bloom on Different Seasons
Different flowering plants bloom in different seasons so it is important to know which plants bloom when and plan ahead. Pansies, poppies, and azaleas bloom in spring. Carnations, petunias, and zinnias bloom in summer. Daisies, gerberas, and roses bloom in autumn. And lastly, daphnes, lavenders, and violas bloom in winter.
Choose plants that keep their evergreen color all year round. In this way, you can avoid bald corners in your garden. For easier maintenance, perennials are advisable since they live for several years. A garden that looks good all year round is a dream for each of us.
Add Big Rocks and Plant Trees
A simple way to break an open area is to add up big rocks or large trees. By big rocks, we mean boulders. Boulders add character to a landscape. A lone boulder may seem out of place though. You can group 3 different-sized boulders for great effect.
If a boulder isn’t to your taste, you might consider adding a tree. Any kind of tree with large trunks and broad branches is a great option. This tree can also provide shade when the sun is high up. Transplanting a tree however is no easy endeavor. Plant a young tree instead and commit to it for the long haul.
Use Plants with Different Shaped Leaves and Colors
Monotony in a landscape can be boring. Break the cycle. You can add plants with red, yellow, or white foliage.
Plant plants that have different shaped leaves. You can plant palms, ferns, and plants with round and elongated leaves. Make sure that the variety of your plants complement each other. Also, make sure you place your plants in a spot that gives them the right amount of sun that they need to avoid future problems.
Add a Water Feature
Adding water features in a landscape never gets old. The sound of running water has a calming effect. A water feature can stand alone making it a focal point in your landscape. You can add some natural stone to complement it. Keep in mind however that overcomplicating water features can backfire and make the area look crowded. Balance it out with the elements in your landscape.
Make Your Landscape an Extension of Your Home
Your landscape is a part of your home. Make it comfortable for you and your family. It should be a place where you feel relaxed and can unwind at any time.
Add some outdoor furniture. Some chairs would do nicely for outdoor brunch or some afternoon tea. This can be an outdoor sanctuary for you. Place your furniture near or under a tree to provide some shade and privacy.
Landscaping is a work of art. Put your heart into it and make sure you enjoy what you do. If you have experiences to share, let us know in the comments.
